THINGS TO DO:

Spotlight On PERFORMING ARTS & CULTURE

In its heyday as a successful mill town, downtown Lewiston Auburn was an exciting hub of arts and culture filled with music halls, opera houses, shops, and restaurants. Today, the gorgeous architecture of the downtown and the beauty of the river is reemerging as Lewiston Auburn’s arts and cultural life once again takes center stage. The Maine Museum of Innovation, Learning and Labor (Maine MILL) is preserving and celebrating the extraordinary stories of work and the industrial ingenuity of the area.

Professional theater, music, and dance organizations have made a home in the community at The Public Theatre, The Community Little Theatre, and at the Riverfront-Franco Center.  Bates College continues to integrate its offerings into the fabric of the cities, delightful public art is popping up on every corner, and new restaurants and shops pepper the streets of the downtowns. The beauty and energy of the Falls is a great metaphor for the power and excitement found in the expanding diverse food, arts, and cultural scene that is once again thriving.
